How do you do the crank in the car?? Dont you have to seperate the trans from the engine?

And yah im in the same boat with my car, has almost 200k on it. Still runs good, compression is at 145-150psi, does burn oil but im leaning towards vss and turbos for that issue. Im debating whether to pull the engine and put in a forged crank, bearings, gaskets and vss or do a full rebuild or buy a longblock with less miles....????

sure you could do the crank in the car if you pull the trans. If I decide to do the crank then I'll just pull the engine though.

Yah seems like just as much work...then doing the head work would be easier.

Yea, I wouldn't recommend doing the crank with the engine in the car. The only reason I did it was because I was doing a clutch and timing belt with oil pump at the same time. I got to inspect the bearings and the crank was scored... so I was already torn down and there was no sense in pulling the engine out to do the crank at that point.

    yeah that makes sense.

What about the heads only? A lot of people say to just pull the engine, but it seems like a lot more work to me.

Sheesh, just do a leakdown test and see what condition your engine is in!

You can make a smart choice based on those results.

Yes that's true but only to an extent.

I pull the heads with the turbos and everything still installed. It's an easy job to do with the engine in the car still.

yeah it doesn't look that bad if you do it that way, but so many guys on here say you should pull the engine, it is hard to cut through the crap sometimes.

Do you pull the hood to get the rear head out easier?
