Computer Viruses and You: How to Remove and General Avoidance Guidelines

I did everything I could, and could not avoid Windows rot with XP. I upgraded to windows 7, disabeled all of the built in security and installed comodo security suite and have been running strong ever since. Comodo is great, just takes a day or two of clicking for it to get used to your system.

Also, macs do suffer from rot. My girlfriends macbook can barely play youtube videos.

I had no luck with the PC. It's gonna need to be repaired using the XP disc, and I'm way too lazy to do that since it's getting warmer now.

Your doing everything except defrag. It will help with the sluggish issue you are having. Over time your windows system files get spread out over the disk and not only are the fragmented, which makes them take longer for the disk to collect them, but they get spread out further on the disk platter adding even more time. To help prevent that, next time you install your OS, format the whole disk, then partition a 30-40gig section just for the OS. This will make sure your OS always runs on the outer edge of your hard drive platter and will help your access times stay in check. Partition the rest of the disk for data and when you install programs, install them to the D drive(data partition) instead of the C drive( your OS partition).

For defrag I use defraggler. It's made by the same people that make CCleaner.

Yea I just forgot to mention that I defrag as well as error check the drive every once in a while, not as often as running CCleaner, Mb, Spybot, etc. I may try setting up that partition as you stated.

Ultimate, you are doing everything right to keep your system running. I'd probably test your hardware if you haven't done so.

There are two ways to do this. You can either run a full system test, which takes quite a bit of time.

Burn this following image to a CD using ImgBurn.
PC Check
Then boot your computer to it.

Otherwise, you can run individual tests:
Get DFT and burn it to a cd. Boot to the CD and choose to do the advanced test. If it is green, your HDD is fine, if red, you will need to replace it.

Then run a test on your memory(RAM) using Memtest 86+. If any errors occurs, your memory is bad and needs replacing.

It's all good dude. Nobody has been using the PC, and it's sitting there unplugged. I think it might benefit from a format anyway, lol.
