my $.02
1. you're better off starting with a vr4. one where the front end is smashed to shit but the firewall back is intact. you're going to have to do a lot of cutting to make a v8 fit front to back (and probably go tube-frame like vr440 did). starting with anything other than AWD means you have to do AWD converting.
2. GM SUV's are your best shot for a transmission that bolts up directly. subaru, isuzu, mitsubishi, etc. are your best bets for transmissions that will hold the power.
3. be prepared to dump more money into this project than you could buy a very well built 16g vr4 for.
