    my $.02

    1. you're better off starting with a vr4. one where the front end is smashed to shit but the firewall back is intact. you're going to have to do a lot of cutting to make a v8 fit front to back (and probably go tube-frame like vr440 did). starting with anything other than AWD means you have to do AWD converting.

    2. GM SUV's are your best shot for a transmission that bolts up directly. subaru, isuzu, mitsubishi, etc. are your best bets for transmissions that will hold the power.

    3. be prepared to dump more money into this project than you could buy a very well built 16g vr4 for.

4x4 and full time awd are pretty different, so im not so surehow truck transmissions would fair. Maybe a crossover SUV, but im not sure of one thats not auto.

this. and that's why i suggest SUV's instead of trucks.

good luck finding a manual AWD that bolts on and can actually hold the power.

What you want is a drive line from a Cyclone. It was AWD 4.3 turbo that well handled the power big turbo upgrades. That is a bolt up no brainer. But running any kind of drive shaft foreward with raise the engine so high would never fit under the hood. Unless you are building a truck. Next a mustang II front subframe. Other food for thought would be Porsche.
Midmount that LS1 behind the seats to a 996 trans-axle. You can buy the adaptor plate and kit on line and on the shelf. They even have a kit to mate the Porsche trans axle to a G672. Or a Rotory.
Stick a big turboed 2.0 3 rotor behind the seats and screw all wheel drive. You won't need it.
