Well thank you..Although anyone with a camera that you can set the exposure time and a tripod can do this. Just dont do it when it is 0*F.

What exposure did you use there? What lens?

Help them, for they know not that which they do not know!

Just used the lens that came with the DSLR. Set the aperture at 3.5. Exposure between 10 and 30 seconds. ISO at 400-1600. Just play around ....The professionals like to use a large number of short exposure times and stack them together. Thats how they get the photos of colored gases and what not.

Had no idea that the exposure setting was so important. Bought my wife a nice canon sx 30. Not a slr but very nice.

these are awesome! I just need to find a place locally without that much light pollution to get these photos. I think joshua tree national park is the closest one for me. Id like to try these too soon.

This reminds me of when I was a kid. We would go to a friends lake house and my father would put his camera on a tripod, leave the shutter open for 15-30min. No light pollution out there so it sort of looked like going light speed in star wars. Well going in circles at light speed.

    Nice pics man!

    Space Photographs

Pics I took of Comet Hale-Bopp 1995 El Paso Texas.
SetUp as Best I can Recall:

    Cannon T70 - 35mm SLR
    1600 ISO 35 Film
    1 to 2 min exposure (??)
the 35mm Camera was riding piggyback on a 5" Celestron Scope in equatorial tracking mode.
