I did mine (1st gen without airbag). I managed to get them out the bottom with the whole A/C, vents, & Stereo removed. I did that after I removed BOTH screws from the oil pressure gauge....
I wouldn't recommend this job to anyone. It was a royal PITA. ... and when people ask me to do it on their cars, I immediately refuse.....
