Thread: Do I have to have an aftermarket fan controller on a 91TT with EMS?

Do I have to have an aftermarket fan controller on a 91TT with EMS?

Is a fan controller required? Can the EMS be made to control the fans in a stockish fashion? Right now my 91 has FAL fans that are hotwired to the AC and so I have to have the climate control and AC on all the time in order to keep the car from overheating (unless I'm on the highway, then I can cut it off while at speed). I'd really like to get them working like stock so I don't have to manage them myself.

If you have the stock coolant temp sensors in the radiator wired up to the stock wiring still, then you can unghetto your fan wiring and run them like stock.

well the sensors appear to be there and wired up still. It looks like both fans are receiving power out of that same section of wiring harness as well. Is that right? Isn't there a power connector for the driver's side fan over on the driver's side as well?

Is there any configuration that has to be done in the EMS or does that even matter?

The EMS should already be configured for that sensor type. The coolant sensors plug into the passenger side plug on the radiator. Driver side is strictly for the AC fan.

you should be able to run them from the EMS. if nothing else, you should be able to hot-wire them always on (that's what evan had to do with mine after the TT-ECU install).

    p.s.

are you going to go to SEDD this year, steven?

lol my point here is to un-hotwire/un-ghetto them and make them work as stock

yes I should be at SEDD. I always am except for this past one due to car trouble.

yeah...no idea how to make that work for my car. never realized how noisy the fans were until they were hot-wired.
