    Wheel size and offset questions

    I didn't want to visit the other site to search this, and I have never seen the information talked about here.

    I am looking at a rim in two possible sizes

    18x9 +30
    18x10 +40

    With the 18x9's I know that the rim would be 10mm farther from the strut housing and and adding 22mm to the amount of rim the could stick out from the side of the car.

    With the 18x10's I know that the rim would be 13mm closer to the strut housing and adding 25mm to the amount of rim the could stick out from the side of the car.

    Should the 18x10's fit or would they hit the strut housing? I know that the 18x9' should fit, it is a matter of if the spokes clear the calipers.

    Any input?

    10" wide rims +40 will never fit up front. it would the first time in the history of EVER that i've heard of it working.

    i don't know if you understand offset math, so let me see if i can help.

    first, divide the width by 1/2. then imagine an offset of ZERO. in this case, that would be 5" inboard, 5" outboard (from the hub surface). a positive offset means that the hub is further OUTBOARD, where a negative offset means it's further INBOARD.

    an inch = 25.4mm (just round to 25mm). so a 25mm offset on a 10" rim would be 4" outboard, 6" inboard.

    still with me?

    ok. stock vr4 is 8.5" wide and either 42 or 45 mm offset (i can't remember). 45mm is 1.8", so add that to the 4.25" you would have on a zero-offset, and you get ~6" inboard. this is pretty close to what 10" with 24mm offset would be.

    so for 10" with 40mm offset, that's about 6.6" inboard; over 1/2 and inch further inboard than stock.

    that was the impression that I had but I have read so much and it was so long ago, I forgot. I thought snakeskinner put 10's all the way around but
    I don't remember the offset.

    i have 10's all the way around, but they are not flush. personally, i like the look, but many don't.

    18x10 24mm offset. only issue i've had is having to run a spacer and shaving the calipers when i did my 2g brake conversion. but that's not an offset issue; that's a spoke issue--unique to design. each wheel has its own spoke clearance, so you're pretty much on your own in figuring out what works (unless someone has done it already for you).

    i'm hoping to get a BBK and ditch the spacers. there's plenty of room further out from the hub. the reason i went with 10" all around was that i wanted to be able to rotate without dismounting.

    fwiw, if i had the front fenders rolled, you probably wouldn't even notice them sticking out.

    So this program is wrong? BTW the offset for at least a 2nd gen R/T / VR4 is 46mm

    no, i think it's accurate. 14mm is .55". my "estmate" was .6" (and i rounded the 25.4mm).

    a calculator will always be more accurate. i just use rounding so i can compute in my head on the fly.

    Oh ok, just checking. I could always just wimp out and get a set of the 95-96 R/T 18" 5 spokes.
