    Rear brake light issue

Got pulled over yesterday for having a non working driver side brake light. Went to check things out today.

Lights OFF brake pedal depressed: Both lights turn on but it appears like they are only turning on the dim filament and not the brake light filament.

Lights ON brake pedal NOT depressed: Both dim filaments work fine

Light ON brake pedal DEPRESSED: BOTH lights turn off completely and no filaments on either bulb light up.

It's not the bulbs; I'm certain. There's no way both blew at the same time. They're not black and the filaments appear to be OK. Could this be a grounding issue? I'm a bit confused here.

No clue...but my drivers side turn in the front behaves similarly(lights off bright filament illuminates, lights on bright fil is on as running, and dim lights up for turning, not wiring to socket as I checked that already)...I'd assume a grounding issue..Or both sockets failed at the same time...? *shrug*

I had a similar issue many moons ago when I owned a 87 Dodge Shadow. It was indeed a grounding issue. Its something to look into.

Somehow, someway, BOTH sockets to the rear brake lights are to badly corroded that the grounds aren't making contact with the housings. I held a wire from the housings to the housing on the turn signal ground and the brake lights work fine. Guess I need two sockets now. If you have any Stealthee, let me know.

Hmm, not entirely sure I still do. I'd have to do some digging.

yup most issues are solved by a simple bad ground somewhere. Most of them arent that great from the factory to begin with, and then we get this great new york weather and salt to deal with.
