Any differences in harness/sensors on the 99 engine vs a 95( or any 2g)

I am looking possibly buying a 95 VR4 with a bad motor. My 99 will likely be getting a new engine hopefully in the near future so I was thinking I could just use that engine to drop into the 95. Would I run into any issues with connceting the 95 harness to the 99 engine?

Off the top of my head the EGR is different. The 99 uses a MAP sensor whereas the 95 doesn't. There might be a few other differences but as long as you have the 95 engine whatever is different can be changed easily enough.

You can use a 95 engine, but you will just need to swap over the intake manifold (they are 98-99 specific, or possibly 97+ specific, I forget, either way, you need to swap it).

You've got it backwards, but still sounds like I should be able to use the 95 manifolds on the 99 engine.

    Thanks!

The "hard" parts of the engine are the same, just the plenum is different due to the new EGR layout and the MAP sensor. Otherwise they are damn near the same.

You can take everything but the plenum off the 95 and drop it in the 99.

Mine has a MAP sensor for the EGR, so I would say 97+. Are you sure it didn't change in '96 with the OBD change-over?

I just checked with Hans, I was right. 98-99 are specific with eachother. then 96-97 are specific, then 91-95 are all the same.

I knew the block, heads, ex manis, and all that stuff were the same. I was concerned with the 99 engine having different sensors, or even the same sensors but maybe a different connector or something. I was pretty sure I had read something about the 99s having a MAP, too.

So as long as I use the 95(or any 91-95) plenum with everything that attaches to it on the 99 engine, It will drop right into the 95 car.

    Perfect. Thanks for the info

When did the water temp sensors move to the t-stat housing from the radiator? Thats the only other variable that comes to mind.
