Well we might as well debate about this idea of mine. So I live in New Mexico where 100 plus degree temps are very common during the summer. At the moment I have 3sx's over sized radiator and my fans will kick on and off every 30 seconds to keep my temps at 210ish. Not such a bad thing but the outside temp at the moment is around 30-45 degrees depending on the time of day. I don't want my fans to be on full time just to keep my car cool during the summer. I'm a little afraid that every time I get into boost I will instantly cause the fans to kick on.
At the moment air must travel through my front mount and A/C condenser before it even reaches the radiator. I will be keeping my A/C because driving in the summer will be a nightmare without it. My idea is this, I want to put two small radiators (250cc dirt bike radiators to be exact, about 8x4" in size) in front of the passenger side wheel which would utilize my only open vent in my bumper (99 bumper). These two radiators would be plumed in line from each turbo back to the thermostat housing. I choose this location because its where the coolant is its hottest during boost. What I'm hoping to do is to NOT lower my coolant temp but to dissipate more heat without relying on my fans to do all the work. I believe the coolant reaches much higher temps after flowing through the turbos(during boost) which then in turn dumps back into the thermostat housing (right next to all the temp sensors). The much hotter coolant coming from the turbos instantly causes the sensors to freak out causing the fans to turn on.
So if any of that made any sense then good, I have been thinking of this for the past two weeks and already have a set of radiators on the way. I have thought about many issues this may cause but I believe it hold more benefits then cons. We should discuss location, where exactly the radiators should intersect in the cooling system and such. I'm open to ideas and criticism so please offer your two cents. If all else fails it will be a fun learning experience.
I found a new radiator made very little difference (over my stock one) what made an amazing difference for me was a massive oil cooler... I don't have a FMIC though.
I hear what your saying though...and I'm pretty sure you could fit quite large radiators in each tyre well if you pull them back enough...
