Does anyone know how late the festivities will run on Saturday? If it is earlier in the day, I would checkout Saturday and head home at the end of the day. If it is too late, I would have to book my room until Sunday. Thanks.

I think we are normally done around 9pm. Unless you plan to run out the door the second we're done you'll probably want to stick around till Sunday morning.

thanks for clearing up what all is included in the initial 120, y thanks! for alan's sake, take it easy on me

no no, not bitchy at all. it's also nice to hear that Something is not for profit.. I completely see why the races aren't included. but i would like to put ani on a course. i think we'd really enjoy it, but then again, the drive will probably be enough on ani, let alone me constantly pushing her around a track

i still haven't managed to arrange my "sleeping" situation, but i do think i'd like to come out.

*plus i'm hoping that someone will be able to help me fix whatever it is i break. i'll bring some parts along to trade for whatever happens..

when is the latest that i can pay the 120? am i missing out on special things if i wait?

I would dissagree that the road course puts the least amount of stress on your vehicle but I guess that just deals with how you drive. If you drive both events with equal fervor the only thing the autrocross may be more stressful on is your tires, and one autocross session won't kill a set of tires unless they are literally on the verge of death anyway.

So I would recomend doing the autocross, especially if you never have before. The speeds during the autocross will be less than that of the road course but it never feels slow. You push your car to its limit within the track and due to the reduced speeds the fear of over cooking a corner or spinning out is much less. Not to mention that there is something to doing competive course driving.

The STL crew did this at NG08..........and then said never again. If you go to all the events that day you will most likely be wiped out by the time the banquet concludes.

I couldn't agree more... By the end of the day on Saturday, you're wiped out. It's a LONG week... I guess it's probably moreso for me, but I still think it's long for everyone. There are late nights, long days in the hot sun... I don't think you should put that kind of stress on yourself. It's worth it to just stay for the extra night. The only thing I HATE is watching everyone pull away on Sunday morning... It always makes me sad.... But it's still worth it.

So Saturday is the last of any festivities?

Some reason I was thinking it was Sunday... Gives me a day to rest after 3 days of driving home.

Thanks for the feedback. I am booked until Sunday.

Speaking of tires, how important is current tread life? The reason I am asking is that I think I will need new tires by fall, and would rather wear out the set I am replacing than a brand new set of tires. Delaying purchase also gives me a chance to see what other owners have, or keeps my options open for new wheels.

I was going to put on new brake pads before the event. Should I plan on buying two sets, in anticipation that I will need to replace that set after the week is over?

Same question about the engine oil. I will do an oil change for the trip. Would I want to change the oil and filter afterwards, as well?

Do we know yet if an SA2005 rated helmet will be permitted? Now that SA2010 are out, it appears stores have put the old models on clearance. I don't expect to need the helmet after the week, so would probably just put out on Craig's list when I get home.

    Thanks,

    Geordon

Helmet should be fine but I can verify that with the track. I don't anticipate an issue. From what I've seen, they're not all that picky as long as you have one and it's not from 1921.

Here is my take on each issue, take it for what its worth:

Tires - If you have a safe amount of tread left you don't have to change out your tires. If your tires are nearly bald I would recomend getting new ones before doing the road course event. Going fast is a lot of fun unless you blow out a tire or slide off track due to really poor traction. Poor tread on drags and auto-x will lead to poor times but aren't a lethal concern. But remember that both auto-x and the road course are Rain or Shine events, so we could be doing them in the rain or on wet pavement, and poor tread and wet pavement don't mix well.

Brakes - Neither Auto-x or the drags will kill a set of brakes. The road course has the potential to seriously abuse a set of brakes if you use normal street pads and/or use improper braking techniques. So the answer here is dependant upon the brake pads you buy and how you drive. Most people can easily run a track day with something like an EBC redstuff pad which they also use on the street, and they won't change pads for the event.

Oil - I recomend a full oil change before and after the NG, especially if you participate in multiple events and drive the car there and back.
