And I think some folks want to come and participate, but are trying to work their $ the best they can cos of high gas prices to get there. I didn't get the feel he was trying to be a cheap skate.

I get defensive about that, so I try to always reserve judgement. We've had so many people that somehow get the hotel information, stay at the hotel at the reduced rates, and attend all of the events without paying that I get a little suspicious of everyone without meaning to. I'm sorry if I came off that way.... Please try to understand that Pete is right - when people do that, it comes from our pockets. We make NOTHING on this event. Every penny brought in goes right back into the event. Last year we were A LITTLE in the black, so this year we're putting it right back into the IMS pace lap and the increased insurance rates. I think everyone (including Pete) who attends this event sees all that goes into it and that it's WELL worth the $120 for registration.

I'll add this... Your out-of-pocket expenses for food will be less than normal this year. Also, the hotels are considerably closer to the tracks (about the same distance from the car show). So gas will be less. For hotel expenses, there are ALWAYS people looking for roommates to cut costs. Check the NG forum for that.

Something you may not realize, either, is that the track is private. We rent it out, and so far we haven't needed to invite other car groups to join us. We avoid that at all cost and will only do it if absolutely necessary. In order to do that, we need to take out a very hefty insurance policy for the week. I guess I just want you to understand that this isn't like the other gatherings. There is no other gathering that I'm aware of for these cars that rents out a track and has all three race days, rents out IMS for a pace lap, and provides a full banquet. Without having attended, I can certainly understand why you would think your races should be included. But if I told you that it costs us more than $10000 JUST to rent LOR (formerly ORP), maybe that would clear it up a bit... That is ONLY for the track rental. Then you have all sorts of other fees on top of that.

Hope this helps a bit... Not being bitchy, just hoping to help you understand what type of event it is.

For first time attendees, I'm sure the explanation you just posted will help. I hate that folks try to cheat and get out of paying. Karma comes around tho......of course, Karma won't drop money in the kitty when it does, but still.

i can understand if someone wants to make alternate lodging arrangements. interloping the events without paying is the mark of dirtbags; and i hope if anyone does it, they're called out on it. publicly.

Lori, do you know of a RV park close by the hotel?
    OR...
If I stayed at the hotel would there be parking for the SMALL RV (26') and trailer?

For the gas comment. I just calculated what I am going to be spending lastnight, and the MRS. about had a corinary! (2,275 round trip)

Help them, for they know not that which they do not know!

I don't know of any parks... I'm sorry. But I do know that the hotel has plenty of parking space for RV's and anything else.

I was looking at everything and I know I can't afford to participate in the events, but I completely understand why they cost that. I figure, it's my first time attending and my trans probably won't be up to snuff anyways unless I stumble on $8,000. It looks like gas will cost about $600-$700 for me and I plan on $300 for food. So, do we make the hotel reservations when we do our reservation for the NG or do we do that separately?
