Do I have to replace the gaskets?

I will be removing the intake and front valve cover, to polish them. I wont be sandblasting because of the risk of leftover sand. When I put them back on will I need to replace the gaskets? They add up to like $50 at 3sx, and if their good I would like to leave them, unless you know of a place with a better price.

Definitely replace them. You can get the gaskets at any local parts store.

Humm, so my local NAPA or AutoZone should have them? In that case I will.

Since you are going to polish the plenum and valve cover, you will have plenty of time to order gaskets from Cherry Hill. I take that you are a TT? You can get the EGR valve and Plenum gasket for Autozone (probably in stock). Don't get the throttle body gasket from them though, it sucks. Order one from Cherry Hill, it will be a metal one. The EGR pipe gasket can't be bought from Autozone, Advanced Auto, or O'Reilys that I know of.

    Here are the part #s

    Plenum gasket- MD143791
    Valve cover gasket- MD186786
    Throttle body gasket- MD180361
    EGR valve gasket- MD119127
    EGR Pipe gasket- MD149764
Spark plug gasket (on the valve cover)- MD186787

If the valve cover gasket has never been replaced i would suggest replacing it, as its probably squished down and hard now, if not you should be fine.

Intake/throttle body gaskets should be replaced everytime you take it apart if possible. At least every 2 or 3 times, as they squish down the first time and stay crushed.

Fel-pro makes equivalent parts to all the parts dbest671 except the TT EGR gasket that goes on the back of the plenum. Get the fel-pro valve cover set from o'reillys, it's only like $45. Half the price of Napa, same part number. It comes with the spark plug gaskets and both valve cover gaskets.

Oh yeah, don't forget Permatex RTV Sealant (ultra black).

edit: here's the part numbers for the fel-pro equivalents:

Plenum gasket set (upper plenum) - MS95008
Valve cover gasket set w/ spark plug gaskets - VS50390R
    EGR valve gasket - 70152

Recommend that you get mitsu tb gasket (my fel-pro tb gasket isn't metal like dbest671 said), and fel-pro does not make an egr pipe gasket.
