Michael Vick: Obama Thankful Eagles Gave Quarterback A Chance

I hate the fact that Vick was ever allowed to return to the NFL but now this!
What happened to the days when athletes were heros and not con"vicks"?
I have always been a big fan of the playoffs and the Super Bowl but if the Eagles are any part of it I will not.

According to Peter King’s Sports Illustrated column on Monday, President Obama called Eagles’ owner Jeffery Laurie to thank him for signing troubled quarterback Michael Vick.

"It's never a level playing field for prisoners when they get out of jail.,” said Obama. “(I am) happy that (the Eagles) did something on such a national stage that showed (their) faith in giving someone a second chance after such a major downfall.''

Vick has had a remarkable year this year, his first as a starter since spending 18 months in prison on dog fighting chargers. Many people have mentioned Vick as a possible MVP candidate.

The Eagles quarterback will be a free agent at the end of this season so it will be interesting to see if that good faith Philadelphia has shown will continue after this season.

    I'm with you Granny!

Th sad part is the guy makes the business called the NFL money. Money=Power=Beneficial Forgetfulness...

Obama's a jackass for backing the prick...

Help them, for they know not that which they do not know!

IDK, even though I seem to like animals more than humans I feel he has paid his debt. I really hope he has learned his lesson and can be a positive roll model in the future. As far as Obama calling the Eagles to thank them, I think politically that was a bad idea on his part.

What he did was wrong but he paid his debt to society and served a sentence much harsher than would have been handed to a nobody off the street at that. He is allowed to return to the work force.

The NFL is not part of the work force IMO. That guy can play football all he wants but not on an NFL salary. He did 19 months in lockup, what a joke.

The only thing I don't like about that is
"It's never a level playing field for prisoners when they get out of jail.,” said Obama. “(I am) happy that (the Eagles) did something on such a national stage that showed (their) faith in giving someone a second chance after such a major downfall.''
A convicted criminal should never be on a level playing field as the rest of the law abiding citizens... they had their chance at level playing field and messed up... so now they should start at the bottom and work their way back up. The only reason Vick was picked up is because he is an amazing athlete. If it would have been a lesser known NFL player his career would have been done at the drop of the gavel.

The joke was the sentence was as harsh as what it was. There was a prosecutor and ajudge who wanted to make a name for themselves so they tried to make an example of Vick because of who he was. Any Joe Schmoe off the street wouldn't have even spent a year in jail.

And the NFL IS the workforce. Players are just employees.

For some reason VA never pressed charges like they said they would.
If so his sorry ass would still be sitting in jail.
We have the death sentance. 19 months is not more then a DUI in this state
