Need a New Computer - Thoughts?

So my HP desktop took a dump last night and is now out of order. I'm looking for a laptop I can run split screen on (still have my 22" HP monitor) that's reliable. I don't need a computer capable of enslaving the human race. All I do on my personal computer is surf the web, use excel, word, and do minor photo work with. With that said, I think I should be able to get some suggestions that are relatively low on price?
