Kyosan Fuel Pump - Independent Bench Flow Numbers and Pictures

So first let me begin by thanking Brett Plow and Aeromotive for being extremely kind and helpful in this venture. They kindly did me a favor by bench testing the Kyosan/Denso Fuel Pump because of a connection to a local engine builder. (ie please dont go asking them to benchflow your pump, this was a one time favor!)

So I bought a Kyosan/Denso Fuel Pump from the ebay seller found here:
    Ebay Kyosan/Denso Pump

this is the exact same seller and pump that is found at:
Denso Fuel Pump - 300LPH 1020 Toyota Supra Denso Fuel Pumps

Notice the email address is the same.

Pictures of the Pump are Here:

    Comparison to Stock Unit:

So I had Aeromotive bench test the fuel pump once it arrived to see if it lived up to its vaulted claims. Sadly it did not. This pump is basically the factory Denso fuel pump for the Supra TT. Since I dont have a scanner I put their numbers in an excel spreadsheet. Their measurements were done in gallons per minute, I converted to liters per hour by multiplying by 227.12. The graph attached is the Kyosan pump and the Factory Denso pump (information taken from Stealth316.com). I also attached the excel spread sheet with Aeromotive's numbers. As can be seen the pumps are virtually identical.

Note: The Kyosan pump was tested at a voltage of 13.5V. The denso information from Stealth316.com is tested at 14V.

Note: Aeromotive used mineral spirits as a testing fluid ... which has a specific gravity between 0.74 -0.79 depending on where you look, this is likely the same testing fluid that was used on the supra pump as Jeff Lucius claims the supra pump was tested with a fluid with a specific gravity of 0.79. Thus the two bench tests are valid for direct comparison.

BLUE is the Kyosan Fuel Pump
RED is the Factory Denso Supra TT pump (info from Stealth316)

Here is a Graph showing the numbers claimed at the vendors website and ebay ad , versus what independent testing shows.

Here are the Claimed Flow Rates:
    510 LPH @ 10 PSI @ 14 Volts 7.7 Amps
    470 LPH @ 20 PSI @ 14 Volts 8.3 Amps
    430 LPH @ 30 PSI @ 14 Volts 8.9 Amps
    390 LPH @ 40 PSI @ 14 Volts 9.5 Amps
    350 LPH @ 50 PSI @ 14 Volts 10.5 Amps
    305 LPH @ 60 PSI @ 14 Volts 11.5 Amps
    258 LPH @ 70 PSI @ 14 Volts 12.5 Amps
    200 LPH @ 80 PSI @ 14 Volts 13.5 Amps
    140 LPH @ 90 PSI @ 14 Volts 14.2 Amps
    320 LPH @ 30 PSI @ 12 Volts 7.3 Amps
    273 LPH @ 40 PSI @ 12 Volts 8.3 Amps
    225 LPH @ 50 PSI @ 12 Volts 9.3 Amps
    180 LPH @ 60 PSI @ 12 Volts 10.4 Amps
    120 LPH @ 40 PSI @ 9 Volts 7.1 Amps

I could have told you the claims were BS just by the claimed amp draw... There's no way that thing is only drawing 14 amps at 90 psi.

Great info. Thanks for making it happen and posting.

A few DSM guys are also coming out and saying the kyosian's have problems with E-85 in a couple of years time. It's only coming out now since they first surfaced in 2008 so be careful when weighing that option if using anything other than petro.

Did you only test one? What was the voltage vs. LPH above 13.5 V? 14.0, 14.5, 15.5, 16? Does it run hotter or colder than the Denso?

The voltage is listed in the information in the first post. Hotter or colder? .... temperature? ....
