    My exhaust fell apart

Exactly what the title says. when summer started I went over some railroad tracks at a normal driving speed (25 mph, it's right out of town) and the pipe section immediately behind the cat cracked. It was barely a hairline fracture, but that's how it started. anyway, last night I was driving in North Lincoln at 27th and Superior and turned into the walmart parking lot. all of the sudden the exhaust note changed drastically. When I parked and looked underneath the car, the cat was hanging from the downpipe and not connected to the rest of the exhaust.

i'll post pictures when I can.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a new catback? I'd need a cheap one because I'm in college. I don't have that much money saved for repairs.

Sounds like a you need a whole new cat back exhaust. I'm sure there are planty of stock ones out there from everyone upgrading their systems. You could also try GZP as they have lots of used spares. Alternatively you could take it to an exhaust shop and get the damaged section cut out and re-welded.

well, It's a custom exhaust. it's all bolted together. I just need the part from the rear muffler section to the cat, really. and I kinda want something better flowing than stock.

I would agree with GTOJOE, seems the easiest and best way is to take it to a muffler shop that you trust and have them weld one up for you. If it is custom maybe unbot the flanges that are used to connect the 2 pieces and ask them to weld them to a new pipe.
They have all different sizes there, although I do not know if that pipe is really that restrictive.

NA or TT car? I offer a pretty affordable cat-back exhaust: http://www.maximalperformance.com/st...d&productId=72

I imagine an exhaust shop could probably weld those pipes together pretty cheaply but of course you wouldn't gain any performance.

I'll save you some reading. Forget about those kits. Far more trouble and money than they are worth.

Best cost-effective solution for an NA is to twin-turbo it using VR4 parts. But it's not the solution. I decided not to do this, I want to keep my reliable and easy to work on NA.

I talked to my local shop and they said they could get me the piece I needed with gaskets for around 200. now the only decision is, do I go for a race pipe, or gut the cat? I live in nebraska so there are no inspections.

200 bucks for a small weld job sounds like some steep pricing dude....

IMO 200 is a bit much for that kind of job. Where I live shops do custom straight pipes for trucks for that much. Of course, prices will differ according to where you live.

As for your other question, it's really up to you. If you are only concerned about preformance than the test pipe will flow better than a gutted cat.

If keeping the cat is important for visual inspections and such, you can always split open the cat after you gut it and essentially put a test pipe inside of it.
