    Oil cooler location info

I'm going to be making a custom oil cooler setup because i don't like the location or size of the stock one. With my FMIC, I hate how the stock one sits between the 2 hotside pipes. Now, I was wondering, since I have about 3 inches between the intercooler and the condenser, would positioning a FMOC behind the passenger side of the intercooler be a problem? In regards of heat. Its either I place it there or behind the passenger side opening. Any suggestions.

Edit:might be more than 3" behind FMIC since its angle forward a bit.

Here's the space I'm working with.

hmmm, so it would be heating your Radiator? can I recommend you go with dual side mount oil coolers?

I think it would work fine. I have a large oil cooler in front of my a/c condenser. My car runs cooler than it did in the past, but it has been changed pretty drastically. If your oil cooler is heating your radiator, your radiator is cooling your oil and your engine. Having your oil cooler somehow associated with your cooling system like that could turn out to be a good thing, provided your cooling system isn't overloaded. Dual side mount oil coolers would be tricky to plumb in.

I've seen people do it before and it will help with oil temp but of course reduce the efficiency of your FMIC and radiator. A better core, slightly bigger, and some ducting at at the stock location is what I went with. Had some cooling issues originally but after the ducting around the oil cooler and radiator it was under control.

I thought people with fmics already have overheating issues. not sure if adding oil cooler (more heat) in that area would help.

My car has never overheated with the fmic. My coolant temp stays at 186 degrees 90% of the time cruising and idling. I've seen mid 190s in the summer. And Just checked again and there's more like 5-6 inches between the core and the condenser. I can pretty much fit a cooler with a fan between my core and radiator. And I've thought about a better core in the stock location but it just seems like a waste with both hotside turbo pipes basically wrapped around the core. Who makes some decent oil coolers? I've been looking at B&M and Setrab.

i would also think that putting it in the front would seem problematic. too many things that the air has to pass through and cool with the air getting hotter and hotter from each. i always thought that adding a fmic would do nothing but benifit the oil cooler because it was now not blocked by a smic.

If you really want to put it there, and dont want to deal with heating issue's 1 thing you could do is pick up a small fan and wire it into the radiator fans so you have a fan on the oil cooler.

Yea I'm second guessing it now. I might just mount it on the passenger side and hotwire the fan.

it all comes down to your prefence and how the car re-acts. Obviously if it gets hotter then make some changes so that you can pre-vent overheating
