    How-To: Push Button Start

    DISCLAIMER: I ACCEPT NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT YOU DO OR WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR CAR. DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. I HAVE YET TO FIND ANY PROBLEMS WITH DOING THIS MODIFICATION. PM ME FOR QUESTIONS OR PROBLEMS YOU HAVE RUN INTO.



    1. Locate the Ignition wires under the dash. It is a blue and white connector and looks hard to take apart.

    2. Find the White wire (Battery 12v)

    3. Find the Black w/ yellow stripe (Start)

    4. Splice wires into both of those wires.

    5. Put the key in the "On" position and touch the wires together (i got a thrill at this point and felt like a theif) to make sure that you have good enough contacts on the splice.

    This is for hooking it up to the ECS button because I know most of everyone here has changed their suspension and doesnt use the ECS button anymore, therefore leaving ECS to stand for Electric Controlled Start.

    6. Take out the screws that hold the front bezel in place and pull it out.

    7. Unplug the connector that hooks into the ECS switch.

    8. CUT, do not leave attached (we dont want power running back down the wires), the red and black wire that are on the bottom of the connector.

    9. Connect the wires that are running from the ignition wires to the red and black wires.

    10. Put it all back together, put the key in the "On" position, and push the button to start the car.





    I had this posted on the other site, I keep getting requests for it so now it is here. I will take some pictures either today or tomorrow.

    I think you can still start the car normally too can't you?

    I have a question! How could you wire up the button to blink when the key is first turned to on but stop blinking when started??

    You would have to run it off of the battery light that goes to the dash or have a switch that loses its ground when the alternator is putting out a charge. There would also have to be a controller to make the LED blink.

    How about implanting an RFID into your hand and starting the car with that?

    I still want to wire everything to my EX-active aero switch, it's perfect, a three way rocker with spring back on one side, Off/ACC/Start

    I am looking into that...

    Edit: I would DEFINITELY NOT suggest using the Active Aero. You would have to gut the entire switch out. Also, I think that you will also lose power to the cigarette lighter, cruise control switch, and an AT control module on the 94 and newer unless you rewired the harness.

    One word of caution here....

    I would check to see how much current is drawn when that switch is pressed and make sure the switch is rated for that current.

    A "cool" push button FIRE is....well....not cool...
