Battery question. (CCA)

I understand what CCA (cold cranking amps) are.

Now, given I want to go smaller to reduce weight with a good battery. What is the lowest CCA that would allow me to turn my car on in the winter with very little fuss.

I have seen it where I am down to -8 F before, but that is more rare than the winter typical just below freezing.

I also plan to have a pre-luber to get oil circulating before I crank. If that even matters. And possibly having the battery in the trunk.

Just from seeing a few cars with batterys in back the loss getting to the starter is going to take a normal CCA. My brother had a Neon that had a battery in the trunk when he got it. The car cranked over hard even in the summer and it was ran with very heavy gauge wiring. He finally got tired of it and moved the battery back to its stock location and the change on crank over speed was ridiculous.

If you want to go smaller then keep it in the engine bay. Smallest I would personally go is 500 cca, and that may even be pushing it on colder days.

My battery is in the back also and even the Honda battery had no problems cranking it.

I like my group 51 battery because it is big enough to not die if you leave the dome light on overnight, but a lot more compact and lighter than stock.

I want to get a Braille Battery. I have just been trying to figure the size. Id imagine I could leave it in the bay if I go smaller than a stock batt. I think mine weighs around 40 something. So a battery that is 17 or 20 lbs should be good. The specific one I am looking at is, http://www.braillebattery.com/index....eries/b3121c/# . It has 550 CCA and 742 CA.

Has anyone bought a Braille?
