    RedLine Oil Recomendation

Redline has a new web tool where you put in your cars make/model/etc and it tells you what redline products it recommends.

    For a 93 NA 5 speed I got
    recommended motor oil: 5w30
    recomended transmission oil: MT-85 (75W85) GL-4

Thought that was interesting. I recently put redline 10w40 (from 15wSomething Mobil 1) and the difference was ridiculous, not a single lifter tick after the first 1.5 seconds of startup after the change, even with cold mornings starts. Engine feels great. I might try the 5w30 afterwards to see how that works out, but redline is a bit of an expensive "experiment".

I was suprised to see MT-85 instead of MT-90. I'm actually staring at 3 quarts of mt-90 that will be put in the transmission tomorrow.

The numbers arent too different so im not worried, but I figure since oil is always a hot discussion id bring it up.

Incase anyone is wondering for a vr4 it says:
    recommended motor oil: 10w30
    transmission oil: MT-85 (75W85) GL-4
    transfer case: MT-85 (75W85) GL-4
    rear diff: 75W90 GL-5

UOA has shown that 40wt is a better choice for the VR-4 anyways. 10w-40 or 5w-40 should perform very similar with the 10w-40 being in theory more stable.

MT-85 is a product that just recently came out. They designed it for tranies like ours that require 85 according to the manual, but up umtil now we have all used MT-90 because thats all they had, and it works great.
