I found a better way to run the wires through. Just unscrew that back plate and run the wires through the grommet then screw the plate back in. No drilling necessary and keeps it sealed.


See where the 3 rusted screws are on each side on that plate around the builb insert, the grommet underneath, you can just peal that back and run the wires through.

I actually just went and did what you said and here is what I came up with:

That's good in theory, that grommet can easily tear. Plus you will be pinching the wires once you put the plate back on. Also you are putting the wires really close the headlight bulb, I don't know how well it would hold up to the heat. If you really didn't want to drill holes, you could run the wires out the drain ports that are on each side of the headlight.

But I do seal the holes I drill with the windshield adhesive, that picture was taken before I did that.

Yeah, It could be possible problems and it makes logical sense, but I never had an issue really. My headlights were in really great condition so tearing from the grommet wasn't a problem, The heat from the headlight bulb seems like it would generate enough heat to melt the wires but after checking the wires before I sold the headlights it seemed like they were brand new still. Just my observation and experience.

If you are doing a robo mod, make sure you get 90 mm. 80 mm only works if you keep the shroud. Just wanted to make sure that's cleared up for any future attempts by others.

You would have to do the fog light mod to run the fog light independently from the headlights. Running new wiring is not that hard, could you see the wiring I ran? I ran a wire out the door jam and under the fender lip (in the engine bay) and across the front bumper. Independent switch is the way to go, especially if you can get the 91-93 pop up headlight switch, looks stock.

You can separate the fog lights inside the engine fuse box with a relay instead of running a new wire, takes 5 minutes.

Well if you are doing the robo mod, you can use 80mm halos, you just have to make sure they don't have the plastic casing around them. I choose to use the 90mm w/ plastic casing because they are way more durable.

Oh I know the fog light mod. But I rather have the halos completely independent from anything, kind of looks weird if you are driving around during the day with only your foglights on.

Well if you are doing the robo mod, you can use 80mm halos, you just have to make sure they don't have the plastic casing around them. I choose to use the 90mm w/ plastic casing because they are way more durable.

I used the plastic cased ones as well for the same reason. The downside is it makes them far more rigid, so I though I'd clarify for others. Buying multiples gets pricy. Haha.

I know this is off topic, but I'm looking for instructions to do the independent fog light mod on my 94 2G as mentioned in this thread. Does anyone have a link or instructions? For the pic, I unplugged the headlight fuse! I love the robo mod too.
