It sounds like a collapsed lifter.

The intermittent thing is what baffles me. Everything I think of suggesting is unlikely because of that.

well it wasnt like that all the time. i drove the car down about 100 feet and turned around to see if it changed it and when i pulled in it was constant.

If its a collapsed lifter the rocker for that lifter will be very loose when the cam lobe is releasing it.

okay so i popped 4 rocker arms off to check all the lifters, i just physically pushed them down with my thumb. one moved a slight bit, the other 3 where rock solid. thought hmm thats weird so i went to my old engine that i ripped out a couple months back, and popped some rocker arms off that one and the 3 rocker arms i popped off i was able to compress the lifter with my thumb on all of them. Now, the old engine is old style lifters and with the engine currently in the has has the big bore lifters. i dont know if they are supposed to be stiffer so you cant compress them or if i just have a few collapsed lifters.

also i stuck one of the big bore lifters in a vice (ends protected) and aplied light pressure to see if they were just stiff but got no movement,

Thanks if you have any input

    VIDEOS
first is the one lifter that barley moves in the running engine in the car:

Its normal for them to move a little. And I would expect your old engine to have them all collapsed. They slowly drain off from sitting.

okay so i ordered new lifters and sat em in oil or about a week, just put them in. along with a few others like fuel injector isolators and misc crap. now i just fired it up and made some videos. got 3.

first one is just idle (about 1500 rpm)

second is idle with a bit of rev

and third im in the driver seat (passenger cuz its rhd) and rev it with my foot, goes up to 3500 but flattens out at 3000rpm, notice the difference is sounds.

im lost.... i think its coming from cylinder 2 (farthest left rear bank) but not sure its hard to pin point
