Hi there,
I really fell in love the the 3000gt (especially 1st gen) about 2 years ago and have been looking for one for a long time.
3 weeks ago I drove a 16Hr round trip in 2 days to get one for a pretty decent price. It's my first project car and I'm REALLY stoked about it, just praying I can get it running before it starts snowing. It cranks but does not start and had been sitting for about 4 months. The owner had the timing belt redone which did not fix the issue.
Since then I have been trying to diagnose it to no avail, would love to have some help.
The previous owner told me he was driving on the highway when the car just started stalling. He couldn't get the engine to turn over, and had to have it towed. He said a mechanic looked at it and claimed it was an ignition issue (he also said the mechanic was sketchy, which I completely believe.)
I put a new battery in it and practically all the electronics in the car seem to be working fine. The only obvious electrical issue is when the driver side door is opened the light on the interior side of the door does not automatically turn on and the light surrounding the spot for the key does not turn on. I'm unsure if this is related to another issue, because when the passenger side door is opened the aforementioned lights do turn on.
When I go to crank the car the check engine light flashes intermittently. I added gas to it (on a prayer lol) and no change. Today and yesterday I have been trying my hardest to pull a code with a multimeter and have been struggling. Attached is a 1:30 clip of the multimeter just running while the key is turned to 'on'.
I graphed out the multimeter reading (super annoying) and have seen codes 12,22,23. Honestly though I am not sure if I did this correctly and would love to have some confirmations if these codes make any sense for the issue I'm having, or if I even read the multimeter correctly.
Anyway, I would love any feedback/advice. I know reading that multimeter is annoying since it is a POS, so even any theories about why it stalled on the highway leading to a crank but no ignition would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Wyatt
