Clicking Noise from ECU Area ? Bad Chrome ECU?

    Folks,

I'm trying to hunt down a surge/misfire with my car. 92 VR4 with 93 engine, no CAS, and 99 Jezters ECU. When cold, the car runs ok. Once it gets hot it surges badly and seems to misfire. On a few cold starts, I hear a rapid clicking noise from the ECU area. At idle if I hit the gas, the clicking seemed to increase. I beleive this ised to be a sign of ECU failure in the early ECUs, but do the Chrome ones have a similar issue? Does anyone still repair/support them?

Possibly unrelated, but I also get a random P0120 Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor A Circuit. (The TPS was a brand new OEM unit). I have removed and tested the (New) TPS and it seems OK. But that error does come back even after adjusting the TPS.

Hoping someone out there has an idea on these..

I don't think anything in the ECU will click. I am betting the clicking is coming from the MFI relay on the side of the console.

I dont know if anything in these can either? I was getting the clicking/failure info for the early models on the Wiki. I pasted that below. I'll start googling the "MFI Relay" now. It's definitely in the same area then. Thank you!

I also saw some threads talking about the ECS controller causing similar issues (just not the clicking).

"There are usually some warning signs that your ECU is on its way out.

A rapid clicking or chattering from under the dash. Usually accompanied with the engine stalling or losing power during the noise. This is the microcontroller going into reset over and over and over again due to a bad power supply. Every time it resets, it will turn the fuel pump relay on and off. This could also be a bad fuel pump relay, but not usually."

My friend's 1992 Stealth R/T (non-turbo) would make rapid clicking noise from the ECU area, and the car drove terrible. I replaced the capacitors as they were never serviced before, and the rapid clicking noise went away and it drove perfect after that. I think the MFI relay is perhaps the one that is rapidly clicking.
