    Starter differences

Okay, so I am pretty sure I asked this many moons ago, but I have forgotten since then. Why are there different starters listed for California and Federal emissions? Is there a size difference? I only ask because the starter from the Bastard looks like crap and I figure I may as well replace it since everything else is being replaced. The car is originally a California emissions car, but all the California emissions crap (precats, EGR, etc) are eliminated.

Basically does it make a difference which starter I purchase?

This is a challenge for A.B.M.!
Ranked No. #1 in initial quality

Idiots, simply by being idiots, seem capable of achieving randomly bad things that are beyond the imaginings of sensible people.

The starters for the Cali cars had the solenoid wire come in from the side to keep it out of the heat. Pretty irrelevant as long as the wire will reach. I've had to extend the wire on a couple that had been swapped around.

Nope, lol. I would have assumed they are the same for each generation. I never looked at them close enough to notice a difference in my cars.

LOL I figured it was either Larry or Chris would come to answer.

Thanks Larry. I pretty much figured it was an issue with the front precat. Being I am going to have headers I'll be safe to go with a "Fed-Spec" starter.
