I think my water pump is going bad.

I am going to try and get some video of it, but I am pretty sure my water pump is going bad. But this is the first time that I have heard a water pump knock. Here is the thing. It sounds ALMOST like a lifter, and ALMOST like a rod. I put a stethoscope on it and the loudest is right on the water pump, and thats where it sounds like it is coming from externally as well. I am getting 0 knock on the logs even under hard pulls, and I have ran it lean and gotten 12 counts before so I know the sensor is good. When it first started happening, I thought I barely heard an exhaust leak.

My water pump recently went out. I started hearing a growling sound from my timing covers. Within 2 days the pump locked up and melted my belt. Im very lucky it didnt break or jump so if yours is going out I would NOT drive it...especially doing any hard pulls.

When I took my covers of I could see metal shavings from the bearings right under the pump!

It was semi new. had almost 8,000 miles on it.

I’ve never heard one knock. Not saying it can’t but I’ve just never heard one do it. A video would help if you get a chance to take it. If you rev it up to about 3-4 grand does it get quieter?
