Thread: Gasket material for turbo outlet

    Gasket material for turbo outlet

Long story short, had to have an adapter made to join the turbo outlet to the pipe for my FMIC due to the headers being in the way. I had a boost leak and checked it out and it's coming from where the pipe and the adapter meet. I looked at the adapter and when I lay the metal gasket up part of it sticks in the airstream (about 1/8"). It is gonna cost an arm and a leg in my opinion to get another adapter made. Can I use this gasket material, or something like it? It doesn't get hot at the housing and want to say the material isn't porous. I am thinking of just opening up the metal gasket, but wonder if it will lose it's sealing affect.

I'm just going to assume you don't have stock turbos.......because I have 0 idea what you're talking about.

I have 16g's with Titan headers.I do not like the OEM metal gasket sticking in the airstream.

Here is the spacer (not sure why I said adapter) with the metal gasket behind it. As you can see the gasket sticks in the airstream which is not good. Plus I think it is the reason why I had a boost leak, not fitting properly/squarely. I got this setup years ago, but have probably put 8,000 miles on the car in the past 7 years. Will probably use a dremel to route it out, but don't know if it will stop the leak, so was looking at the gasket material from FelPro. Already use it for other applications, just not one that has boost. gasket.jpg

I would just use normal gasket paper with a very light coat of Loctite 518 on either side. You shouldn't have any problems if the flange is flat.

Don't even muck around with that metal gasket, throw it in the bin.
