    Shift shaft oil leak

I am new to the forum and need help with removing the shift shaft from my 1995 3000GT VR4 w/6spd manual tranny. It will only slide out about an inch or so then hits something solid. If I wiggle it around it will come out another little bit then binds up and will come no more. Tranny's in neutral and by all accounts it should slide right out. Anyone have this problem? Can't find any posts regarding this!

Have you removed the bolts on the front of the transmission? IIRC there's a detent bolt and an alignment bolt, but it's been literally 8+ years since I did that job... Fair warning, the spring on the end is VERY easy to drop into the transmission so be careful and have a magnet on a stick handy...

Thanks. DocWalt! Nothing I read said anything about removing any bolts but I will take a look at that and thanks for the help!

Yes, there is a bolt under the detent that may have to come out. By my Reckoning it should slide past the detent though. I'll give it a try tomorrow and let you know.

YES! Success! I loosened the bolt under the detent, did not have to remove it, and the shift shaft slid right out! Thanks to DocWalt for the assistance!

Spring was laying at the bottom of the shaft hole. Easily picked out with magnet on a stick. Waiting for the new part now.

Awesome. I'm glad that helped. I had removed the detent, but clearly it wasn't necessary

I did have to back off the detent fault and the guide bolt in order to install the new one. After that everything went perfectly!
