tire and coilover size?

have 18x8 with 225x45R18 front and 18x8 with 245x45R18 rear... this seems odd to me, thinking I will change to same front and back??? also has coilovers but not sure what they are and how much it lowered it etc, anyone recognize them? Read a lot of posts but not sure what to run seems most run the 18x9.5 wheels, with what tire and what coil over to fit it correctly. Will the coilovers I have on work etc..etc??

i think the little symbol on the coilover looks like a megan symbol, although i have some megan's and your blue part is red for mine. may be a different model, but yes i think the coilovers are megan's.

if you have megan's, they should go pretty low, and my front megan's have built in camber adjustment, but i don't know about yours as i only see the rear.

not sure if you're fwd or awd, but if you're awd, i would personally put the same width wheel and tire all the way around. i'm awd and i run 9.5 inch wide wheels all the way around, with 275/35/18 tires all the way around.

if you're fwd, i would at least have 235 or 245 width all the way around, and if i wanted it staggered, i'd put wider wheels in the front. but if you must by wider wheels and stuff, i'd put something at least 9. inches wide all the way around. i Want 17x10 all the way around, but that's besides the point

and, your coilovers should not hinder you from fitting most wheels.

If the car has been driven any on the 225/45/18 245/45/18 combo then your VCU is toast.

Neither tire size is correct. Stock tire height is 25.7".

225/45/18 is 25.97" tall
245/45/18 is 26.68" tall

While the 225/45 is close to stock height most would run 245/40/18 on 8" wheels.

Also as mentioned coilovers won't hinder your wheel selection. They actually clear better than factory struts.

95 vr4 all wheel drive. What happens to fry the vcu? Does sl have the same vcu? Looking to get 18x9.5 wheels.

Maybe the megan EZ11street series coil overs?

if you don't have any, get some rear adjustable control arms.

now before you go crazy ordering new wheels, you also need to make sure that the offset of the wheels is proper. which can be tricky, and i'm not the human to ask. someone else will be able to answer specific offset questions, but with the proper offset, coilovers, and adjustable control arms, you'll be golden. shit, if you get an alignment too, you'll be killer.

Tires rotating at different speeds will fry the VCU. SL's don't have VCU's, only the AWD does.

How will I know or test if it is fried?

Jack car up on 4 stands to get all 4 wheels off the ground, put it in neutral, and spin one of the rear tires forward, a front tire should also spin forwards, also the other rear tire should also spin forwards. Not a perfect test, but the easiest. if the other rear spins backwards the rear diff VCU is broken, if the front spins backwards or doesn't spin, then the center diff VCU is broken.

Realistically, you'll never know of they are broken or not, I'll say most VR4's have worn out VCUs. Put it this way, those coilovers hamper handling more than some worn out VCUs, so don't worry about it. Fix those tire sizes, that will wear the diff spider pins right out of the housing, trashing the center diff inside the transmission.
