    Buying a 1993 3000GT VR-4

    Hello all,

Very similar to my intro post, but I've heard of worse things I could do.

I'm going to test drive and have a high rated mechanic shop look over the car in the title. Has 117k miles and a clean title. Interior could use some work, but nothing I'm afraid of. Main question: What should I be looking for that would have you walk away from this car?

I very much so plan on buying this as 117k miles with a clean title should last me a good while. That being said, I'm sure a lot of maintenance and time will be required to keep her running smoothly. I have seen a few sources highly recommending a thorough checkup replacing a number of parts at ~120k (spark plugs, water pump, timing belt system, and oil pump were all highlighted), but any assistance I can get as to what I should be asking about while looking through maintenance records would be much appreciated.

I am by no means a car guru, but if it means I can make this car last over 200k I'm willing to try and put the time/work in required. Thanks again for any help.

Edit: Cost is 6800, betting on getting him down to at least 6k with some hemming and hawing

Check for oil in the y-pipe to see if the turbo seals are still good. Oil pooling there is bad.
Smoke on idle or deceleration = bad valve stem seals.
Neither of those would necessarily be deal breakers, but if you can't do the work yourself to take off valve covers and replace head components, its going to be expensive to get done. Also, check for engine rocking when the engine is revved (bad motor mounts).
That's just a few that tend to be bad on a 120k 3S.
