I am with the majority here. Start at crank, move to rear then front and leave the slack at the tensioner. So easy a cave man could do it, or even me.

Im surprised no one has mentioned cam lockers . I did mine from crank to rear cams to water pump to front cams to tension. Had it back one tooth on the crank. Made sure I was setting the belt on the gears tight. Worked the first try It was my first timing belt ever o.O Also I used clips to hold the belt on the cams.. Just cause

Cause you don't need any of that crap if you do it backwards.

Well I think using cam lockers on the front cams makes life easier. I got the rear two cams to chill on their marks but the front two wouldnt.

When I did my 180k maintance....I found the tensioner pulley was upside down!!! The belt was being warn from the bolt that holds the bracket.

so, looks like as long as everything aligned with right tension and pin can be removed and inserted back in, than its all good. no matter the way you do it.

Yes, but getting to this point when you are inexperienced with timing a 6G72 can be very frustrating.
