Help! No first or reverse, shifter feels loose!

Car is 93 TT, OEM clutch, 63k on the odometer. Decided to take it to an appointment this morning for some reason. As I pull into the lot, shifter can't find 1 and feels loose. I roll it into the nearest parking spot and with clutch in, try to row through the gears. It won't find the normal gear spots.
Come back out from my appointment, try to find R and have to push roll the car out of the spot. Try finding 2 and it kind of works (or the tranny is just still in 2nd) . Nursed it all the way home in 2 without shifting at all for fear it won't go back in and I'd be stranded.

Likely culprits? Common issues matching these symptoms?

Check the cables and linkage on the transmission. Make sure nothing is fouling up the linkage and the cables are properly connected.

Cotter pin broke or fell out, most likely. You may have to remove the 2 soft pipes that go to the bottom of your Y-pipe to see it decent.

Wow... Easiest fix ever. The two linkage bracket bolts had backed themselves all the way out. The bottom 2 were starting to come out as well. Unbelievably, both were still sitting on the bell housing after a 2 mile 2nd gear drive home, bushings and all!
Put them all back in and tightened em down, and shifting is as tight as ever. I'll have to keep an eye on em for sure though. Maybe some threadlocker would be appropriate? Poly motor mounts might be shaking them loose a bit I suppose

Threadlocker is a good idea. I'm glad it was an easy fix.

I kind of panic posted after it happened and had to get back to work before I could check it out. Glad it wasn't a huge failure. I got lucky.
