Hey guys. First post. I know this has been covered before but I am just looking for a bit of guidance and I don't want to resurrect a dead thread.
So I have a 91 stealth rt/tt, I have had very few problems with this car and I absolutely love the thing. I was driving home yesterday and pulled onto my street, shifted into 2nd gear at about 20 mph, and as soon as I let off the clutch the car just died. Engine just completely stops, no misfire, no CEL...nothing...just dead. I turned it off and tried to start it, cranks but wont start up. First thought is dammit my timing belt just went. Pulled off the timing cover and crank the engine, timing belt looks fine.
Today I pulled the plugs with my brother and checked for spark. I have no spark. Paper towels when cranking...no smell of fuel, pulled two plugs on front bank after cranking, they were not wet, which leads me to believe that I am not getting spark or fuel.
I am not getting a CEL when I try to start the car so I am thinking ECU or MFI relay. However, the MFI relay is audibly clicking when I try to start and when I stop turning the key. We checked voltage on the MFI relay and everything looks good. So I'm thinking the MFI relay is fine. I pulled the ECU and took off the cover, everything looks and smells fine. Capacitors have no sign of leakage. I am led to believe that it has been replaced previously because there was only one of three mounting bolts holding the ECU in place and there is part of a sticker on the head of one of the 4 ECU cover bolts that does not match up with the same sticker on the cover of the ECU.
The other possible culprit is CAS or maybe some shoddy wiring that came loose?--the previous owner's wiring is a complete nightmare so its possible.
I am wondering if anyone knows how to test the CAS and if they could provide some troubleshooting tips, and also if anyone nearby would be willing to swap in my ECU to see if it is still functional. I live in western Massachusetts.
any pointers, tips or recommendations are greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
-Pat
