    New Clutch Slipping

    Hey guys,

Put a new XTD stage 3 clutch in along with my stock resurfaced flywheel a while back. I drove on it easy for the first few hundred miles. I have ever been able to get a good launch on it without it slipping. If I slip it very quick and bog, it'll hold. If I slip anymore than that it slips. This is not what I expected given reviews and that it is a 6 puck.

Do you guys have any ideas what the issue is? Only secondary problem I can think of is that the slave isn't fully retracting when I let off the pedal. Could I crack the bleeder to relieve the pressure and see if the piston/fork move?

Anything else I can try short of replacing the clutch?

Really don't have a lot of time or money but would love to bust into the 12s (13.1 is my best with a 2.2 60').

    Thanks!

No, I didn't adjust anything. I heard with hydraulics that you don't need to adjust it? It engages fairly close to the floor and I made sure it doesn't drag. Is there a way I can check to see if it needs adjusted?

Drive it around till it's warmed up then grab the top of the release fork on the gearbox and check for free play, if you can't move the fork by hand slightly it's possible the hydraulics haven't released properly.

How many miles have you bedded it in for (needs to be stop-start traffic really, once you've released the pedal it's not bedding in).

Did you measure the step on the flywheel before fitting?.

Every time I've dropped my trans I've checked/adjusted freeplay. The first clutch I ever put in the Stealth I thought I did something wrong because the clutch released right on the floor. I actually pulled it back apart to check things and put it back together. After still experiencing improper engagement I looked to the forum and found out about freeplay.

Awesome information guys! I will check the fork (I was wondering how to check that), and measure free play.

I drove it probably 500 miles (some highway) before road coursing and auto crossing. I was gentle on the clutch but was in a rush to have it ready for NG. Didn't attempt launching until probably 1,000 miles.

We had the flywheel two-stepped before replacing it.

    Thanks again!

Do you know what step measurement they used to cut the flywheel?.

My 6 puck clutch takes 550ftlbs balls out launches all day long without a hint of slipping. I can side step at 6000rpm no worries, and I'm on a smaller 225mm Na clutch !

Gotta be an adjustment issue JUST riding the clutch slightly ?

Yep, either adjustment like I said, or bad 2 step like Keith suggested.

Spec syas they build their clutches to run with a 0.827 flywheel step if that's any help to you?.
