take a light and examine the funnel walls in the 3s maf you'll see yourself. tbh I'm starting to think evo maf is less restrictive because of this...
A better test is to install a vac gauge in one of the pre turbo intake tubes. The more vacuum in the intake, the more restrictive the MAF is from not allowing the air thru it.

Start with your car tuned to about 450whp.

Read the gauge with the stock MAF and then again with the EVO MAF installed. I observed only a few inches of vac with the stock MAF and about 7 inches with the EVO.

Then up your boost till the car makes 500whp.

Read the gauges again. I couldn't get the car to make more HP with the stock MAF because it couldn't count that much air but with the EVO MAF at that level the gauge was almost maxed! That car also couldn't make any more power without knock on its setup.

Given the trend I would assume our new stock style MAF would not have nearly the same restriction but have yet to be in a position to redo the test. This is where I left off

OK so I have some Dyno time booked for early April. If I buy the MAF on the chromedecu.org site (http://chromedecu.org/?product=monte...dapter-harness) will I get the 'new' MAF?? If so I'll pull the trigger and buy it and post dyno sheets vs. my 482 MAF. Not sure my car will make the required HP but I guess we'll see.

Yes. Adam gives you the new MAF.

Yes I only ship the new mafs after contacting the customer.
Ps I have all the cores I need. No need to send cores.

No need can be done with simple maths. I drawn up the measurements of inlets subracting walls and things insuide in Catia.

Surface area of the 3s maf inlet is 18% larger than that of the evo maf. So there is in fact a small gain in swiching to the 3s maf housing.

No doubt there's going to be some kind of flow restriction at some point with the MAF. We just haven't found out where yet. Hopefully it's above what 95% of the customers will ever make.

It would also be interesting to see what tops of first on the electronic side. The MAF circuitry or the physical airflow.

Sure looking forward to someone doing some dyno tests. Personally I will be happy with it if it's good for around 500hp without restricting flow much. I don't feel the need to go much above that anyways, rather focus on other things to make this car better. If I go 19t it may be somewhat resctrictive at some point of the load curve but probably not enough to care about it. Driveability of a stock functioning maf would be worth it, imo

cutting these parts of that plastic screen protection would help free up some flow. Figure the middle part could be cut abit too without worry. Around 2% more from just cutting those lower corners. Could keep a little nodge I guess to help keep the screen in, incase it would want to get sucked in.

I experimented with hacked MAFs and MAFs without the honey combs. It caused a the tune to drift a lot. O2 correction was the only thing that really kept the engine running.

You can always modify one of the tables to reference a subroutine that converts map sensor voltage to a standard hz value based on rpm, iat, and a ve table.
