Fuel Pump bulkhead conversion to AN - more detail / pics?

I found LawDogg's tutorial on the Wiki here:

Fuel: Repair Gas Tank Studs and Fuel Pump Assembly - 3000GT/Stealth Wiki

I tried replacing the stock rubber line, and with 150K and 20 years of rust, it just wasn't happening. The hard line near the pump wiggled enough trying to separate it that it started changing color, which meant it was about to break, so I decided to just cut it and get the 3SX pump to hardline line. Then, as usual, the hard line under the car is having nothing to do with that, either, so I think I'm going to be stuck getting the full tank to filter line. Rather than deal with mitsu fittings, I want to do the AN conversion.

    My questions are:

    1) What does the bottom of the assembly look like? My guess is the barbed fitting for the fuel line and a rubber high pressure fuel line to the pump, but is that just attached to the threaded end of the 90* fitting on the top, with the gasket in between?

    2) What does the rubber seal do? Is that to keep the tank sealed and keep pressure correct? Do you need a seal on the top AND bottom of the 90* fitting from the top?

What I think I can do with mine, since I'll just have a 6AN hose connection, is get a 90* 6AN / 6AN fitting, a seal (or two?), and the 6AN barbed fitting for underneath. I don't *think* I need anything except for those two fittings?

I've never done this before, so any guidance or hints are greatly appreciated!

And if it works, I'll post pics of the top, side, and bottom of the assembly.

Here's what I've got in mind for parts:

    90* Bulkhead
    Amazon.com: Earl's 983304ERL Aluminum Adapter: Automotive

    6AN to 3/8 barbed female
    http://www.amazon.com/Earls-700167-S.../dp/B000CN7EB8

    Bulkhead nut
Amazon.com: Earl's 592406 Blue Anodized Aluminum -6AN Size Bulkhead Nut - Set of 2: Automotive

I'm not sure what to get as a washer, whether it needs to be rubber or plastic, or where to get it from. But I think I have the main parts figured out, if my build idea is right.

LawDogg has 1 rubber & 1 nylon listed and it looks like both are on top?

If I do that, does that mean I don't need any rubber gasket / sealant? Just the bulkhead, nut, and the barb fitting?
(I think that's correct, since the stock hard line doesn't have any gasket, but want to make sure)

    Just found the Fabberge kit:

    Fabberge 3000GT / Stealth Single Fuel Pump Hat - Fuel - 3000GT VR-4 - Mitsubishi

I see what you're saying with the welded fitting. Not sure how they're running the stock tube directly into the bulkhead, but it answers the question about welding. I already ground my stock pipe down flush on top, so I may need to get the bulkhead nut and barbed adapter for the in-tank fuel line part.

Big problem with the way fabberege did it though, the fitting will not clear the access panel, I cut and re-welded a lower profile fitting onto mine to clear , and it still needed to be clearanced to fit right.

Yes, I used a straight -6an bulkhead fitting welded to the sender hat on the outside. Then used a full flow 90 fitting on my hose setup. No washers or sealant needed then, can't leak or loosen up.

Excellent, thank you. I need to go the 90* bulkhead route since the 3SX line has a straight fitting on it, and I don't want to attempt cutting that line to put a 90* fitting and risk it leaking.

    Thanks!

ok, well don't use those hard 90 one you posted, get one with a smoother radius. You may end up pounding on the tank inspection cover to get everything to fit FYI.

Darn, I already ordered it and couldn't find many that were steel instead of aluminum. The one I linked looked the same as the Fabberge one. Will I have trouble with it? I'm planning to just drill out where the stock tube was, and put it there.
