what oil viscosity do you recommend for winter in NJ for my VR-4

I have a 1997 VR-4 with about 109,000 miles on the engine. The engine is stock with no internal modifications

What oil viscosity do you recommend for winter here in NJ? I checked the service manual and it shows 5W-30 for temperatures of below -10 to about 60. It also shows 10W-30 for temperatures of -10 to above 120.

But I wanted to see what people are really running. I also do not want to be changing oil in the middle of the winter

Take this for what it's worth, but one of the key players in the 3S world runs 20w-50 year round, and lives in Long Island... and beats the ever living daylights out of his car at ~700 horsepower

The quality of oil will help prevent unwanted wear vs the thickness. A 5w-30 amsoil will protect a lot better than a 20w50 gas station brand guaranteed.

I live in PA with a fairly fresh rebuilt stock engine VR4 and as controversial as it may be, I run Shell Rotella T6 Full synthetic 5w40.

Not to sound like a fanboi but i have had lots of personal success with this product that has been validated by Blackstone Oil analysis.

I have lots of thought and reason behind my decision to run this oil and a big reason is price. I dont have any need for any of the boutique brands and i have a stupid personal aversion to all Mobile 1 products. (though i would use Euro 5W40 if rotella didnt exist) I dont plan on extended oil change intervals despite knowing its capable of going 5-6k miles. just my 2 cents.

I live in CO and run the same oil (T6 5w40) year round as well. Typically do 3K oil changes but have pushed it to 5K once or twice.
