Story behind the punch that broke Geno Smith's jaw in two places:
At the heart of the dispute between former Jets LB IK Enemkpali and quarterback Geno Smith is $600 that Enemkpali believed Smith owed him, per league sources. Enemkpali purchased a plane ticket for Smith to attend his July 11 football camp at Pfugerville High School in Pfugerville, Texas. However, days before the camp, a person close to Smith was killed in a motorcycle accident in Miami and Smith did not attend Enemkpali’s camp, per sources. After Smith did not attend, Enemkpali demanded that the Jets’ quarterback refund him the $600 he allegedly used to purchase a plane ticket. Smith told Enemkpali he would reimburse him the money, but he did not. Enkempali confronted Smith today about the money and the confrontation ended in a punch and broken jaw.

Doesn't sound like a sucker punch to me. Sounds like a millionaire tried to skate on a few hundred bucks, and got popped.

Just actually got the story. Smith was supposed to pay him when camp started, 2 weeks later no pay. Enemkpali confronted him, geno smith put his finger in his face, bad move, broken jaw.

I hate when people who have never been in a fight in their life call anyone throwing the first punch a sucker punch.

Stories develop with time. The breaking story, that onebadmollafolla posted, had little to no info at the time. That's why you don't knee jerk and wait for the facts. Doesn't matter how you twist it, that's battery, plain and simple.

Only a bitch of a man presses charges on a guy he instigated to beat his ass.

No one has pressed any charges. Wouldn't do any good anyway, this guy was a 6th round pick..he's not exactly flush with cash.

All we know (for sure) is the dude swung first, broke Smith's jaw in 2 places, the entire team was met with, and the decision was unanimous to dismiss him. End of story. Tomorrow ESPN can get back to talking about LeBron.

Doesn't mention charges being pressed, just that a crime was committed.

I'm not that old, but when I was younger punching someone in the face for talking trash wasn't prosecuted. In fact the cops would have called you some kind of sissy for trying. I was beat with huge paddles, and even body slammed by teachers in school. I didn't even think to complain to the principal, he was one of the people who paddled me. When I got home and told my parents what happened I was grounded for getting in trouble.

I also distinctly remember being put in the wrestling room with people I had issue with, and told by the assistant principal to handle it like men instead of running our mouths like girls.

Its a sucker punch when you hit someone who isn't expecting it, so yes it was a sucker punch.
