Hey all, I'm running an aftermarket stereo and I'm going to be pulling out my stock steering wheel soon. I purchased a Ford Escort/Focus steering column mounted audio controller. I chopped off the stock mount for it and cut a hole in my lower steering column cover. Then I used 3m plastic repair epoxy to make everything one piece. I also purchased something called the Maestro SW. It's a programmable button controller. I set it so clicking mode will change the source but holding mode will call up google now. Everything works perfectly.
(NOTE) You will have trouble doing the same thing with 1st Gen control stalks since they are angled downward. Luckily you can buy a whole steering column off of ebay for not that much.
I haven't installed this yet since I'm still waiting for my aftermarket steering hub to come in.
(NOTE2) I have not tried this with a stock oem radio and I believe it will not work.
