    CV Joint Question

Hey guys, I potentially have a noob-ish question regarding the removal of the driver side half-shaft from a 1994 Dodge Stealth R/T. Mind you, I'm only 19 so I have A LOT to learn, but I love working on cars and really enjoy learning about my car and gaining more experience so I can care for it the best that I can.

So my driver side half-shaft boot is pretty torn up so I'm going to be replacing it this coming Monday. From what I understand, you just have to remove the drive shaft nut, the two lower strut bolts, pull the steering knuckle away while pushing the half-shaft towards the center of the car to get it free from the knuckle side (potentially over simplified, but from most of the threads I've researched, you don't really need to drop the control arm/disconnect the tie rod end that the service manual notes)

My big issue though is do I remove the entire shaft, being the half shaft AND the inner shaft from the transaxle (the entire object labeled 7 in the diagram from the service manual/the entire object circled in the painted screen capture) or do I separate the half shaft from the inner shaft where the boot is (noted by the second picture where I drew a slash mark separating the two pieces)? And if I do remove the entire shaft from the transaxle, how do you go about separating the half shaft from the inner shaft? The replacement part, as listed by both 3sx and Ninja are only listed as the half shaft without the inner shaft, so I'm assuming it has to separate somehow.

Any tips/tricks and info is greatly appreciated!

Remove the two bolts and pull the whole thing at once. Then separate them using a carefully placed wood block and a hammer.
