Moving the exhaust should have no affect on the lifters being oiled.
it might be like corey said with the back pressure but yeah, it's lifter tick. i can hear it coming right from the heads and when i take the oil cap off it gets louder.

    Congrats that it starts.

IIRC I could hear my lifters more when the test pipe broke.

Just to be safe check the timing belt. Make sure nothing jumped or out of place.

Just put some dynomat inside your valve covers, and viola no more tick

Just kidding, maybe it is possible with the changes in cylinder pressure that the tick becomes more apparent, i cant say for sure, and i dont have the brain to think to hard about it right now.

I stopped warming it up because the tick was so bad. I need to check the timing and also figure out why my temp gauge isn't working either. When I work those things out then I will warm it up, change the oil and do the "aggressive break in".

I had a massive lifter tick (more like lifter clack), after my rebuild on first start up. I scared the shit out of me; I was convinced that I did something wrong. In the end, it went away on it's own and now I cant hear a thing.

If it's just lifter tick, I'll probably go away if the lifters are new (and big bore). I can't say why my lifters were as loud as they were when I first fired mine up. They stayed loud for a little while too, like a few days, getting quieter as time passed.

    1. were did you get the rebuild
    2. Please tell me you checked the piston clearance from the block.

Sounds a little to loud to be lifter tick. It sounded like mine when I was sent 11 to 1 pistons. And with you moving the exhaust it would have just made to piston more noticeable when it struck the heads.

I never checked the piston clearance when I did the rebuild, But this is a better video of EXACTLY what it sounds like. Like I said I'm sure it's lifter tick.
