Wanted: Taller 5th gear for 1993 FWD 3000gt

    Hello:

Need to rebuild my 5 gear FWD getrag F5m33 tranny soon. As long as rebuilding, thought about putting in taller 5th gear. Team Rip at WELCOME TO TRE** WE SPECIALIZE IN MANUAL TRANSMISSION REPAIR used to sell them, however think they are out of business. Website is still up, but full answering machine and no email contact, been trying since Dec 2014.

Would like to buy a taller 5th gear set if any member has one setting around. Or give me a lead in right direction. Know general parts and synchros are available at various places on-line. Is there any one place you would recommend?

Thank in advance for any and all help!

FYI the FWD transmission is NOT Getrag, it is just Mitsubishi.

As for the taller 5th, it should be nothing more than an OEM 5th gear out of either a DSM or Evo trans. The DSM trans are basically identical to the FWD 3S trans, other than the casing.

TRE is still in business, just nearly impossible to get a hold of as you could tell. As for the taller 5th it's not exactly that simple, there's 3 varieties. I bought one from John at TRE in 2013 for a 91-92, didn't come close to fitting. He said they used a few different parts in these trans when I talked to him over the phone. This is the only info I have in email form from him

"The gears that you have use the smaller synchro. That means you need the smaller hub/sleeve assembly, smaller aluminum shift fork, smaller reverse synchro brake."

Yeah, I didn't think of that. I remember when taking apart a few different transmissions I saw a few differences with 5th gear.

If I decide to get a different 5th I'll probably talk to my buddy that has a shop and is a DSM nut. He'll probably have a few sets lying around he'd sell me cheap.
