Yep, exactly. My factory wheels almost weighed 30 pounds each, bare. The ones on there now weigh 17.5 pounds each. The difference was pretty noticeable after putting them on.

Here's my contribution to this thread, while the carpet padding may have a dampening/deadening effect to the sound in the car, the one thing that would scare me is that car carpet padding and house carpet padding are not created equally. For cars they must pass numerous fire safety tests, as well as resist mold and mildew that can be caused by the extreme environments that cars often see. Beyond that, they are very similar, but if you were aiming for sound dampening you would have better luck with a product dedicated to such a purpose. I got over 70 sq ft of sound dampening installed in my car now and I can tell you there's a huge difference and it didn't weigh that much. I too used Second Skin Audio's product, and I can confidently say that I will be installing their Luxury Liner Pro this summer to fully block out road noise. Why would I do such a thing, one might ask? Well, I regularly travel between NorCal and SoCal and there is nothing more fatiguing on a 7 hour drive than a noisy car, plus I have about $1500 into the audio system and after sound dampening the car it is absolute nirvana when playing a good cd. That's my $0.02

I've already got most of the sound dampner in, still have to do the doors and hatchback. I have the LLP to put in, but haven't had the time. Hopefully I'll get it done by spring.

I opted not to put it in, the car is now put back together and sound a lot better with just the dynamat knock off material. I believe I used 62 Sq ft, covering about 80% of the doors, trunk, floor base.
