    Yes but its not necessary unless you want to get away with a sketchy tune The only real upgrade would be the lower compression turbo pistons with thicker ringlands.

    Sorta. Early 12 valves in the 80's were 8.85:1 with 1.5mm top rings and full skirts.
    ~1990+ plus 12 valves were 8.9:1 with 1.2mm top rings and a bit more of a slipper design.
    Diamantes in 1992 had 10:1 compression pistons and a little hotter camshaft. I have a set of those in my Fun car.

    I'm still working on my SOHC, I hope to have a lot of stuff done on it this summer, it's just time and motivation holding it up. I have the right stuff, just need to do work. I fully expect to easily get into the 12s or faster.
