Yes they do. This is the internet, where your car is as fast as you want it to be.
I don't think anyone is disputing that CXcores are less efficient than others at any rate.
I'm maintain that you need a back to back kind of comparison with identical cores to really put this bastard to rest. Surprised that the DSM or Evo community hasn't done so yet.

One from supraforums but it's 4.5 to 4 also so not quite fair....

Ebay cores are better than nothing, but not as good as top shelf. Seems logical.

Didn't bother actually googling it. I assumed that has been done, you or Donnie would have already jumped in here with a relevant link.
Here's another on BMW 135i stock vs upgraded ETS 5" core with Meth Injection.
N55 Intercooler Dyno Testing - N54Tech.com - Your Source for International Turbo BMW Racing Discussion
Meth makes the intercooler inconsequential at this power level on this car.
That's one of the reasons I went with a cost-effective core since I'm using E85. My core takes most of the heat out and E85 can do the rest. (Road course, heat soak may be a different story.) One of these days I'll add pre-turbo meth and delete the intercooler altogether for some testing (with e85 of course). Some folks are trying it but I haven't seen back to back.
Back on topic...If you want a blacked out FMIC, go for it!
Edit: here's the MIT paper I mentioned earlier in case it wasn't posted on this forum (still can't remember where I saw it.)

For street use with lower to moderate power, a properly engineered air/water system > allNow there is a kit that allows the use of the a/c system to cool the reservoir tank and will keep temps at or below ambient even when sitting in traffic.
Downfall is finding room for a properly sized heat exchanger to handle the BTU loads needed for an A/W setup to actually work correctly.
I'm only a honk for the a/w setup because i love the simple packaging under the hood and ability to remote mount things. And when desired the ability to get below ambient temps.

Dry Ice? lol! I've seen some people use that at the dragstrip.
