    Transmission Whine

I built a six speed with a supercar engineering obx front diff and super car shift forks.

Replaced what I could tell needed replacing and setup the front diff with new genuine mitsu bearings and .15mm pre-load. Originally my trans had one thick shim and two things. I had to remove the 2 thins to get the pre-load right. It still turned harder than the original diff did, you could just barely turn it with your fingers, but I figured new bearings and factory pre-load would be pretty tight.

Now, among suspected clutch drag I also have a weird whine.

    1)Most noticeable around 40 MPH
2)Doesn't make any difference what gear
3)doesn't make any difference what rpm
4)It does NOT get worse with speed, 40 or 60 is the same.
5)in neutral it makes no noise
6)coasting in gear it makes no noise
7)accelerating it makes the noise, doesn't matter how hard it is the same.
8)Not really that loud, but is a gear type whine you could hear pretty good with the radio off, it is very high pitch, like a harmonic resonance.
9)pressure on the shifter either way makes no difference
10)only about 80-90 miles on the setup so far.
    11)no vibrations
12)no growling or anything around corners

I'm probably going to have to drop the trans, but I'd at least like to know if I can fix this whine while I have it out. Anyone have any ideas from the symptoms? I realize it could be the t-case, but I took it all apart and re-sealed it, and it all looked mint.

Does anyone have any clutch recommendations for the best street manners and 600 AWHP? I'm pretty sure this southbend fe/act mb019 setup I have is dragging.

I'll go ahead and say this was the the start of your problem and now you have another.

Have you drained the fluid yet? Stick a magnet in the drain hole after you do, lots can stick around in that case.

I wouldn't necessarily throw it under the bus just yet. If it was growling in corners or something sure, but I'm talking about a faint gear whine in a straight line.

well, metal floating around in the oil probably doesn't do the roller bearings any good.

It did it from mile one. It was also prepped by phil and appeared to be deburred internally.
