    New to turbos 15g build.

    Hey guys,

So I've been a 3s owner for a couple years now, finally got a vr4 from a buddy. Broken bolt in crank so taking car of that. '94 15g's 550cc injectors supra pump greddy boost controller apexi safc. Car came with two boost gauges two water temp and two oil pressure. The apillar pod gauges are not hooked up. That seems like over kill to me but I don't know.

I'm looking for help regarding engine management, gauges, and sensors.
There are so many options and I guess I still don't quite understand what's in the car. Do I need wideband, egt, other useful sensors. I know what chrome ecu and standalones but don't know if I want to get into that yet. Does the SAFC do basic functions of those just through the ecu.

I have been looking through the forums and continue too, I guess most of what I have found just seems really complicated. Trying to narrow down all the knowledge I'm trying to gain to get a direction for my build.

Guess I'm looking for some Barney explanations of so I know what I have and what I need.

Well, a good starting point - what are your goals exactly? to get it running healthily and make it a streetable ride with the 15Gs? sounds like you've got a total tuning package in it with the boost controller and SAFC...though Chrome would replace the SAFC entirely.

What's up with the gauges, are they all hooked up? Are you saying that it has the stock ones AND then also aftermarket ones?
If you go Chrome (flashable ECU), you'll benefit from a wideband. EGR isn't necessary, unsure if any standalones require it (I'll let the more informed chime in on this).

Regardless of all that, it sounds like when you get it mechanically up to snuff you've already got everything you'll _need_ to have a fun & very streetable ride, past that is just gravy (or...more upgrades!)

Well from what I researched on 15gs on pump they max out around 400. The highest I've seen though was like 384awhp I think. I want to get into the 400-450 range hoping meth injection and maybe upgrading a few more things can get me there. Honestly my goal is to have cosmetically near perfect ride that can really get down on the highway. My area has a pretty good sized car guy group and I want to bring a respectable 3/s into that. Not really any around here.

As far as gauges it has a c7 gauge pod with three forget the brand guages and aftermarket gauges in the stock positions as well. The gauge pod has wiring run into the bay but not hooked up. After the mech broke the bolt he just stopped working on the car.
EGT exhaust gas temp sensors. Just started reading on those.

It also has tein coilovers with the electronic dampening controller

Pics of what you have? Pick the better gauges, sell the others. You will want a wideband, and after that as far as gauges go it will depend on what you want to do with the car. Track/Autox EGT/oil temp might help. Street fun just the basics of what you have and a wide band.

The SAFC is fine for now, many have made good power with it. I would suggest reading up on tuning to get the learning curve going. Read all the Chrome pages here. Even though you do not have Chrome, the threads have good info on tuning basics.

Before you do anything find out when the 60k was done (proof). What is the mileage on the car? Do all the basic maintenance stuff. You will get a schooling just with that, and it will help in the future if you screw up slightly on the tune.

Well the bad luck for this car started with the 120k. Had it done by a friend who is very good with these cars has a very nice one all done himself. Jumped time messed up heads . finally gets new heads has another person do them breaks bolt. Now I have it so engine will be gone through completely.

You pretty much have a good foundation to reach your 400-450hp goal. Proven turbos, good fuel support, Boost controller and Fuel controller. You can reach your goal especially if you choose to go with a meth injection kit. You may want to sell one of each of the double gauges, and get yourself a wideband and EGT. The thing with Chromed or standalone is that it will give you more control for example timing control, which you could get your hands on a S-itc to go along with the safc. Might want to do a maf-t down the line, but not necessary. Good stuff, looking forward to your progress!

Gauges are Glowshift. So definitely selling those, hey with the profit I make from all three of those and the shitty a-pillar I can afford one new gauge of my choice ahahha.

450 awhp with 15Gs on water meth will be pretty easy.

I would purchase an AEM 1 gal kit and run the 550cc nozzle that comes with the kit. The SAFC is great and easy to tune with. Get an AEM wideband and youll be golden.

On a side note after owning a few of these cars i strongly suggest you drop the oil pan and check your rod bearings. Its very easy to do and doesnt require pulling the motor... plus it only cost ~$80 for a new set of bearings. They should be replaced as part of the 120K. Ive dropped oil pans from cars that were 'running fine' only to see pretty beat looking bearings that were well past the 'factory spec tolerances'. If you just bought this car and dont know the motors history the bearings would be one of the first things i replace.
    the basic go fast bits...
forged short block, Billet DR1000's, 680cc injectors, meth inj, FMIC, MAFT, Apexi Neo, hotwired 255lph fuel pump.

Thank you Thor. Engine is already out. I am thinking I'm just gonna get the Pampena Stage 2 short block and call it a day actually but we'll see if the bolt can be taken out without destroying the crank.
Right now my main concern is cleaning the engine bay getting rid of things I don't need or can relocate.
