Chromed ECU plug n' play quick question on initially obtaining the ROM

Okay, directions that came with it say to go to chromedecu.com to get a copy of the rom, however it is pre-installed, and I don't see anywhere on the site to get it for free. I also don't see any instructions on any of the threads as to how to download the rom from the ECU to your laptop in order to start modifying the rom. Is it as simple as using EcuFlash , and click "read from ecu's flash memory", then saving the file & editing? I see in other threads that three different files are needed, again though, that is apparently what you get when you buy & download from the site, however the plug n' play is pre installed. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places, I've spent hours and hours researching and found nothing on this.

Yes. There are two main threads on tuning. Read them, read them again, and once you have done that read them a couple more times. There s a lot of info to absorb, and you won't get it done reading once or twice.

You should also follow the links in them about ecu flash, evoscan, and others as there is a gold mine of info in them.

Help them, for they know not that which they do not know!

Save the file, and leave it untouched. Make copies to use for tuning so you always have the virgin.

You'll also need the XML definition file.

It's pre-installed to avoid people bricking their ECU's by voltage dropping during the long initial flash to install Chrome, not because it's free. That's why you will not find a link to download it for free. If your ECU didn't come with the donation built-in (a link to download), you'll have to donate to receive the files you need to read the chrome file. Greg worked his ass off to offer this to the community, lets not forget that.

as far as I can tell he bought it from jester and as far as I know Jester donates to chrome for each ecu purchased. Is that not the way it works anymore?

I guess I missed this "chromedecu.com". Since it is Brett's ecu you will have to donate to Greg for the Chrome file. I had assumed it was Jester's... My bad!

Edit: I was correct the first time it is Jester's. Email Jester for the link. It should be included as Forest said.

I donated twice I think anyways........and bought Greg tacos. Tacos are an approved form of payment.

I do not know how Jester's system works, if he emails a link or something else. Best to email him and find out.

Sorry, I didn't realize I didn't mention it was purchased from 3sx. It specifically shows in the description that V2 is installed, and also from the description "Receive Download Link with Purchase for the Most Recent Version of the Chrome ROM at No Extra Cost". No big deal as long as I can download the rom straight from the ECU and save it, but as Forest Gump said, I will still need the definition xml file for the rom, and for evoscan. I can't find the info anywhere, the only mention of them is if you purchase the rom, you get the rom, and the two definition files, but with it pre-installed, no definition files are included. Are the definition files not publicly available?
